The Confucius Institute (CI) affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities (BTK) at the University of Debrecen (UD) marked the end of the Chinese lunar year, the passing of winter and the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse with music, dance and singing performances in collaboration with OTT-Home International Meeting Point. Their joint Chinese Lantern Festival, held for the second time in 2026, attracted a record number of visitors on February 28 in the pedestrian street Batthyány utca, located in downtown Debrecen and festooned with red lanterns for the occasion.

There were as many as sixteen teams containing fifty students altogether on Wednesday and Thursday, February 25 and 26, at the first Re:Shape the City idea generation contest held at the University of Debrecen, aiming to find new solutions to challenges posed by a modern city.

Consumers’ perception of sports statistics, blockchain as a strategic resource in the European marketplace, the psychological and decision-making mechanisms of sustainable fashion consumption, and work addiction as a new form of deviant organizational behavior were but a few of the topics discussed at an international conference of the Doctoral School of Management and Business at the University of Debrecen. Nearly a hundred presentations were given in as many as nine different sections at the event held on Wednesday at our Böszörményi úti campus.

A dual degree that is unique in Europe may be earned by the four Hungarian students who have been the first to win scholarships for a program run in cooperation between the University of Debrecen and South Dakota State University (SDSU) in the United States. These selected students from the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Science and Environmental Management, who will study at South Dakota State University for two semesters as part of their precision agricultural engineering training, will be leaving for the overseas institution on Wednesday.

Students from the Faculty of Music at the University of Debrecen performed outstandingly in a prestigious international percussion competition with a background of decades of professional tradition. Levente Szabari and Áron Karácsony came first and third in the Italy PAS Competition online contest in Pescara.

A group of recently graduated Hungarian and international students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Debrecen took their official medical oath on Saturday. At the ceremonial council meeting of the Faculty of Medicine, fifty-nine of these physicians received their diplomas.

Students of the University of Debrecen did pretty well at this year’s NeuroSpark Hackathon held in Elche, Spain. Our contestants, representing the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Informatics, competed as members of international teams focusing on potential solutions of problems related to the nervous system and managed to achieve significant results.

Two UD students, who are the recipients of Excellence PhD Scholarship from the foundation Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, have participated in an international course held at the University of Reykjavík in Iceland, focusing primarily on the skills essential for innovation-based entrepreneurship. These doctoral students then reported on their personal professional experiences to their peers, who are also exemplary students of the University of Debrecen.
